Programme Objective

The Programme's objective is to assist Kenya in achieving sustainable economic growth, increase employment creation and poverty alleviation though a bottom-up community-demand driven approach.

As per the Agreement, signed between the Italian and Kenyan Governments the funds provided for debt-swap operations are used to implement initiatives aimed at poverty reduction, both in rural and urban areas, in a context of social participation and using environmentally sustainable resources.

The KIDDP aims to empower district communities to improve their access to basic social and economic facilities in both rural and urban areas.

The Programme specifically supports projects that are:
1) community-based
2) address causes of poverty
3) promote direct beneficiary participation.

The Programme is therefore fully in line with the GoK poverty reduction strategy and with the Kenya Joint Assistance Strategy.

In order to ensure the involvement of the civil society at local level, the initiatives will be proposed through the District Development Committees (DDC), consistently with the priorities issued by the relevant District Development Plans.
